Early results in our center have reproduced those results with 65% of qualified patients seeing equal to or better 20/16 and over 92% seeing 20/20 or better. This is excit...

  • Justin Earl is for Hale Vision

    June 27, 2012

It's been two months since I went in for the CustomVue LASIK at Hale Vision in Brookfield and (aside from losing 2 pairs of sunglasses) I'm as happy as I was on the day after I had the procedure. Dr. Lanny Hale and his entire crew did amazing work on me and I whole heartedly recommend them. Everything from the first moment I walked in their doors for an exam to make sure I was a good candidate to my first follow-up (including the procedure, of course) made me very comfortable in my choice. I feel like a broken ...

I'm most nervous about being forced to wear reading glasses after the surgery--not because there's a good chance of it, but because my mother had LASIK and a lens replacement (for cataracts) and she has to wear reading glasses now. I know, intellectually, that the two procedures are very different but I'm still concerned.

  • Risks of LASIK vs. Contact Lenses for Swimming

    March 28, 2012

"Being a cornea specialist in Fairfield County Connecticut means that we see a good number of contact lens wearers who are college students for eye exams at Doctor & Associates. With spring break plans right around the corner, we often hear patient questions about wanting to wear their contacts while in a pool, the ocean or hot tub," commented Leslie Doctor, M.D. "Contact lenses really should not be worn for swimming, taking showers, in bath tubs or in hot tubs as this poses safety risks to patients."

  • It has been 1 year since my LASIK surgery

    January 27, 2012

I am 53 years old and I had lasik surgery from Dr. Hale in January 2011. I cannot believe what a miracle was performed!

I had very bad eyes I believe Dr. Hale said I was in the top 5% of bad eyes. I was very nearsighted and had a major astigmatism.

I wore glasses since the second grade and glasses/contacts for the rest of my life. In my 402s the need for reading glasses began. I switched to monovision soft contacts and had pretty good quality of vision through my 402s. As my near-vision p...

  • Another changed life!

    December 6, 2011

I have been wearing glasses ever since I was in the second grade. Throughout the years, my eyes got progressively worse until I exceeded a minus 11 in both my left and right eye. I became completely dependent on glasses or contact lenses. That dependency also leads to worrying about what would happen if you lost your glasses or contact lenses when traveling. I had no way of traveling with such bad eye sight. Swimming in a pool required using just my thick glasses. No matter what style of frames I purchased , it wa...

    August 24, 2011

The reality is that the majority of people who meet the age and general health requirements are in fact good candidates for the iLASIK Procedure (using exclusive LASIK technolog). Unfortunately, many of the people we talk to have an incomplete understanding of LASIK and an antiquated view of what makes someone a candidate. Sure, there are some conditions that exclude certain patients, but whether you have nearsightedness, farsightedness or an astigmatism, theres a good chance you can still have the iLASIK Procedu...

  • It has been 5 years since my LASIK procedure

    July 29, 2011

    Dear Dr. Hale,
It has been about 5 years since my procedure. I simply wanted to follow up and let you know how thankful and fortunate I am to have had LASIK done by your team of professionals.
Prior to the surgery I was going through a rough time with my vision. I could no longer could wear contacts and my 20/2000 vision prevented me from enjoying active sports and hobbies that were dependant on excellent vision. I had dry eyes and was often uncomfortable while wearing glasses when working on computers a...

  • Diabetes and LASIK

    July 20, 2011

Can you have Lasik surgery with Type 1 Diabetes?
Having Diabetes is not considered a contraindication to having the Lasik procedure by the FDA ; but it is listed under the category of warning. This means the status of your diabetes both currently and in the past may have a bearing on the quality of your candidacy. Well controlled diabetics with normal visual function, normal retinal blood vessels, stable glasses/contact powers and normal general healing may be excellent Lasik candidates. Having uncontrolled...

From the first time that I visited Hale Vision, I was impressed by the staff. Everyone treated me in a kind, courteous and professional manner. They all were very knowledgeable. Dr. Hale informed me in detail yet in laymans terms, how the procedure would be performed and what to expect afterwards. I felt completely confident in the care that I would receive under the care of Dr. Hale and his staff. Its been four days since the procedure and I am very pleased with the results. April 22, 2010

I had a very positive experience with Dr Hale and his staff. They were there to explain every step of the process and answer all my questions. Although not the least expensive place in town, the addition cost was well worth it to not be run through an assembly line process like some other places which do many surgeries per day. It was great that you could meet Dr Hale before surgery to explain the process, It was great knowing what to expect.

I visited another laser place, and the visit with you was the difference of night and day. I felt secure from the start and I knew exactly what my vision could be with a successful surgery. I was well informed of the risks as well as the guarantees. In my case, because of how high my prescription was, it was still worth it for me. I would recommend Hale Vision in a heartbeat.

From the moment I first spoke with one other the Hale employees, I could tell how much more professional, thorough, and advanced Hale is in comparison to the five other centers I visited. My experience was superb. To trust people with my vision is nerve-wrecking, but I did not feel nervous about trusting Dr Hale and the staff- the opposite. I appreciate how much they all went out of the way for me. My life is already improved.

  • Pentacam Technology Introduced by Hale Vision

    October 18, 2007

Once again, Hale Vision leads Southeastern Wisconsin in the field of refractive surgery.  The Pentacam is a 3-D modeling device that provides the refractive surgeon with the most detailed information obtainable today.  This is extremely valuable in the pre-operative screening of potential Lasik patients as it may detect diseases of the eye far in advance of other current technologies, thus preventing inadvertent surgery on poor surgical candidates.  All pre-operative patients at Hale Vision are screened by this de...

    September 1, 2007

September 21, 2007 NASA approved All-Laser Lasik for use on U.S. astronauts. This decision was made following extensive clinical research conducted by the various branches of the military. The data, they felt, revealed that the combination of femtosecond laser for Lasik flap creation and wavefront-guided excimer laser for the corneal sculpting provides superior safety and vision. This, of course, is the technology that was introduced into Southeastern Wisconsin by Hale Vision and has been in place for over three...

    October 5, 2006

C.H. asks if Graves Disease disqualifies a person from having Lasik. Not necessarily. Graves disease can be considered auto-immune in nature thus making ones overall immune system slightly suspect for healing purposes. If Graves has caused the eyes to protrude, often making blinking abnormal, or if there is unusual dryness from the Graves, then this could be a problem. But if the Graves is mild, inactive, requires little on no medication to control, isnt causing any eye problems currently and vision is stab...

  • Technis question

    October 2, 2006

Frank Asks: Interested in Technis Iol Z9000. They make remarkable claims on restoring full functional sight. Your comments please.

The Technis intraocular lens was the first to employ the concept of higher order aberration correction into an IOL. This is similar, in a limited way, to what we try to do with our wavefront guided Lasik treatments. The cornea and the natural lens have certain amounts of spherical aberration. For years, standard lenses used after cataract removal have not addressed these fac...

  • More Implant Questions

    January 10, 2006

    Jeff asks:

Are the ReSTOR and ReZOOM lenses the same, are there really 3 types of Acrysof IOLs?

I think we talked about the first part in an earlier post. ReSTOR and ReZOOM are both multifocal implants, with different mechanisms. The ReSTOR employs a diffractive central optic area and is stronger at near than any other implant (see the AMO website about this lens) and the ReZOOM is multizonal with different rings of power that cover the entire lens and seems to be better in the distance and i...

The correction range is -3.00D to -15.00D. This lens cannot correct astigmatism, neither can the Verisyse. While the approval occurred on the 23rd of December, it will take some time before it is widely available. • Intralase Upgrade

    November 10, 2005

We performed our first day of surgery with the new 30kHz Intralase today. The technology is amazing. This unit fires pulses at 30,000/sec to create the flap. Everything went well, flaps looked great, the pressure time for the patients dropped from around 60-65 seconds per eye to around 35 seconds per eye (the patients liked that part). Were the first to have this technology in Southeastern Wisconsin and will update the community on our progress as the results start to come in following surgery.

    September 29, 2005

It is truly era of technologic expansion. The FDA has just approved the first intraocular lens implant that can correct astigmatism. While I dont know the exact range of correction that will be available, this represents a step forward in the correcion of cataracts and for those individuals having a non-cataractous lens removed for prue refractive purposes, ie. substitute for contacts and glasses. This surgery is likely to reserved for those over 50, but well see what the final announcement of the FDA has to say...

    September 2, 2005

The word is filtering onto the street that Visx has received verbal approval of CustomVue treatments for high myopia with astigmatism. The ranges are probably about what we hoped for, -11.00 Diopters of nearsightedness with up to 3 Diopters of astigmatism. This was the final piece of the puzzle that we were waiting for at Hale Vision. Now we can complete are All-Laser, All-Custom Lasik program. Look for exact information as it is published.

    July 8, 2005

The question has been raised as to the status of Custom treatments for higher myopia. July 8, 2005

Jeff asks: are the multifocal implants ready to use and which do I like? He mentions Technis, Crystalens and ReSTOR. First, I dont believe the Technis multifocal is available yet, the regular monofocal Technis is a good lens which has some built-in spherical aberration adjustment for better night vision. The Technis multifocal could be a very good choice when approved, but have to wait and check it out then. The Crystalens has received mixed reviews from surgeons I know who have implanted them over the last year ...

  • ReSTOR after LASIK

    July 5, 2005

A question was asked concerning lens implants after LASIK. It is very compatible to have any kind of lens implant after a previous lasik. It requires extra care in terms of the preoperative calculations as these are somewhat altered by the previous corneal reshaping procedure (LASIK). You need a surgeon experienced in the field of lenses over lasers to assure yourself of the best possible results. Our office is initiating a new program designed especially for our patients and others who have these specific situati...

  • Lenses (Implants)

    June 29, 2005

We are currently gearing up for several new forms of refractive implant surgeries in our office. Details, such as pricing, etc. are being finalized. While the ReSTOR implant was tested by the FDA for use in patients with cataracts, it can be used in patients without cataracts, and also after LASIK, but these would be considered OFF-LABEL uses of the device. The FDA will probably never test the use of any implant in these categories. Its just the way the FDA works. They typically dont test the use of a new devi...
